Judging is like calling the game after the first quarter or at half time. Based on what I am seeing both in myself and in my team mates, I decide to call it quits. I judge that there is not an easy win here or not a win at all. Sooo,, I quit. I do not know how it could have turned out but, I am not hanging around to see.
This is why scripture tells us not to judge. Matt.7:1 God, Himself will call the game if need be. By judging I stop the clock in the relationship at a certain point that I find painful or at a time of overwhelm where the odds of winning seem insurmountable for me. Or perhaps I just wanted an easy game with a strong team mate, but that is not what I am finding. Perhaps a different team or partner would be better.
I have a grandson who is very talented and wants to be great but doesn’t want to put in the effort to learn all the necessary skills to mature and to continually practice in order to achieve his potential. In the draft, the best players are picked by the worst teams. Why? So that the weak teams can become strong and competitive. In real life I may be the stronger or weaker team mate. However, I always have access to the best Coach and Counselor. If I am wise, I will always follow His lead, even though it may seem very tough at times. I am also an inspiration and of great encouragement to all those watching me as I mature and play my part and position.
It is interesting to note that the most exciting games to watch are not the ones that are an easy walk blowout. No… The most exciting are the ones where the odds seem insurmountable and yet in the final quarter the apparent loosing team comes back and ends up winning the game!! There are a lot of high emotions, with yelling, cheering, and screaming during these games.
In this game of life, I may have been drafted or have decided to play for a team. It is now up to me as to how well I play my position, even during all the excitement and even if others on the team are not playing their positions well. I can rest assured that the Referee will call the fouls as appropriate, give time outs, and will call the game if He sees it getting out of hand. However, I will always follow my Coach’s instructions, mature, practice, and play my position to the best of my ability. This is winning!!!
