The most powerful witness we have as Christians, as adults, and as parents is the way we openly do all of life and live within our relationships, our family, and our community. It is a SILENT presence. No where are we told to be loud speakers in our relational settings. Jesus used the example and gave the example that I should “let the light of my life so shine before all those around me so that they may see my good works and glorify God for what He is doing in and through me!”
Sounds simple enough, right? Well, not if I am a relational infant or child. As a relational infant or child I can’t help but talk and usually loudly give my opinion or declarations. After all, I must set the record straight for you. And as a child, I will follow it up with the escape clause; “Do as I say, and not as I do.” Or I just try to hide what I do. I feel I have done my duty just by telling you what you should do….
But then, Jesus added: “Set your light out on the table where all those who know and are related to you come to dine with you and can clearly see who you are and how you act.! Not only that, but I am to be like a light in and for the community that is clearly seen by all! Matt.5:14-16 Wow! I think my song should be: Silent light, a holy light, all is calm, with my light so bright…! It takes a relationally mature adult and parent to openly live in the pure light of life!
