What is perfection? Jesus said “Be perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Matt.5:48 If Jesus said it, it must be important! Those who live in “perfect country” as a part of their personality trait, cheer this idea of perfection. It’s got to be the best and the perfect!
The perfect job, the perfect look, the perfect spouse, the perfect place to live, the perfect child, the perfect body, the perfect church, the perfect vacation, the perfect diet, the perfect health, the perfect vehicle …. the perfect……! I don’t really think that any of that is what Jesus is talking about.
I have several friends who are stuck in life because they aren’t able to find that perfect ….. Because in their mind (a child relational maturity level) they may miss that perfect …….. In general they are looking for somethings or some ones to fulfill their wants and desires, so they just keep searching and searching and …..
Let’s look again at what Jesus did say.??…. Oh, I’m not supposed to be looking for things or others who are perfect, I am the one who is supposed to be perfect. And since Jesus is the One talking, and He is equating us to being like God, He is talking about our relationship and our heart, because that is what He looks at. Indirectly, Jesus is talking about Himself and His relationship with His Father.
Sooo, In order for me to be perfect, I need to have a relationship with Jesus the same way He has His intimate, covenant, relationship with God! I am to be doing my “days” with Jesus, the same way Jesus does His “days” with His Father.
WoW …… That saves me a lot of talking and searching and looking. I only need to BE connected to the One Perfect One! Perfection is a state of being that comes from the heart.
