Psalms 37:4 James 4:1-3 1Sam. 16:7 Pr. 3:5,6
The vast majority of our population including Christians are at a relational maturity level of an “infant” and a “child” where life is all about me. As an ‘infant’ I will view God from that perspective. He should be giving me what I want ….and be giving it to me now. The following statement is a commonly expressed and implied in our discussions and prayers.
“I will follow Jesus as my guide as long as He gives me what I want and am requesting of Him. I have the promise from scripture that He will give me the desires of my heart and this is one of them. Since I have a word from Him, I don’t want Him to take very long to bring me what I am asking for. I also shouldn’t have to go through much if any pain nor through any long dark valleys in order to receive what I want.”
God looks at us and sees our heart and who He has created us to be. He sees that I need to mature and what I need to go through in order for that to happen. It is not possible for me to totally see what God sees in me and what would be good for me and the real desires of my heart that would match the real me. I look at things, outward appearance, people, and places to bring me satisfaction, safety, and security.
In short….. It is easier as a relationally mature adult and parent for me to be able to TRUST Him to provide for me whatever He sees are the real desires of my heart. He is the One who provides real satisfaction, safety, and security for the real me!
