I was frightened out of my mind …. I experienced a sudden burst of anger …. I didn’t have time to think …. On a whim or on impulse I bought it…..
We have all experienced emotions in this manner. So, where do they come from? Well, they come from the right half of my brain. This part of my brain operates faster then the left half of my brain where I do all of my logical thinking. The good thing about how this works is that it is an early warning system so that I am able to jump out of the way of a charging bull without analyzing the situation and trying to make a logical decision as to whether I should jump out of the way of the charging bull, or not.
However, If I do not relationally mature and learn the skills I need to properly deal with these emotions, I will continue to “fly off the handle” and be in an emotional state that I do not want to be in. …. Just thinking logically with my left brain will not override my right brain full of all these emotions. We all know that thinking that I won’t be afraid again doesn’t keep me from being afraid again.
Soo, How do I deal with these big emotions that continue to trouble me?
