My mind and brain is designed for a relational world where everything is in harmony. I need a place to be securely connected. Jesus offers me that connection. As I connect with Him and His people, I have a strong, healthy, secure, place to belong. This allows me to be open and transparent with where I am and allows me to learn, rest, and mature relationally. This the place I belong and call “home”!
Without this secure “home” I will most likely live in the fleeting world of “coolness”. This is a child maturity trait where I “put on” many different outfits, activities, and styles….. This isn’t the real me. It is an appearance I would like to portray. How I look, what I wear, what I drive, where I live, where I go, how much I can drink, how much I can take, how high I can climb, how fast I can run, how high I can jump, how much I can collect, how well I can play ….. how much I can spend, how many social followers I have, who I hang out with, how I fly, ……. I am the “in crowd”, just look at me ….. I am cool!
This “cool” make believe world isn’t the real me and I have to go out of my secure home to portray this image. The sad seriousness of this “cool” world is that it is but a flash and then gone. If I do not mature from a child relational world into an adult relational world, where I have a secure real place to belong and to develop the real me, I will stall and most likely crash and burn into addictions such as alcohol, drugs, and sadly, hopeless despair, and sometimes suicide ……
Sooo ….. Let’s take this serious and get back into real life and mature. The only Real Life is with Jesus. Connecting with Him and His mature followers, gives me a secure, peaceful, place to belong, live the real life, and to blossom and thrive! Shalom!
