“God made man in His own image.” On father’s day, my daughter-in-law sent me a card where she had written, “Thank you for making Troy!”(my son) As I smiled and pondered the statement, I realized the profound truth found in it. I am literally making my children and those around me in my image. We all know that our children follow in our footsteps. My 4 year-old granddaughter literally follows me around to be with me and to “help” do what I do. She will say, “I want to hold your hand and run only as fast as you run because I want to run with you!” I am making her in my image. Jesus said, “come follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.” When I back this all up I must look to see who or what I am following and how that is making me. I will automatically pass on who I am to my family and to those around me. The old saying, “Do as I say, not as I do” does not work. Those we are making will do as we do and as we are. If I am an adult child in relational maturity, then I am only able to pass on child level skills to my children. They will take on my nature, and be stalled at my maturity level. So, whose nature do I have? How mature am I? What is the image I am making in those around me?
